Course: Advanced Placement Psychology Teacher: Mr. Norman You are to be commended for taking the opportunity to complete college-level studies. Successful completion of this course will not only prepare you for the AP Exam in May, but also provide you with the groundwork for further study in psychology at the college level. The goal of this course is to prepare you for the AP Exam in May. Along the way I hope you gain an appreciation for the discipline and genuine interest in your studies. Last year’s AP Psychology class (2000) boasts an unprecedented 94% success rate on the AP Exam (17 of 18 students earned a 3 or higher). The burden of success or failure lies on your shoulders; I can show you the way, but you will have to dedicate yourself to meeting our goal--- success on the AP Exam! Many of you will find this rigorous experience quite rewarding. Below is a brief overview of the major content areas covered by the AP Exam. Treatment of Psychological Disorders (Ch.16) 10 The chapters above are included for your convenience and meant only to guide you in your background reading. Most of our class time will center around activities, lectures, and discussions which will elaborate on the material covered in the unit. Reading is essential and assumed. Grading System: 1. Homework/Quizzes/Papers/Projects (30%) 2. Tests (60%) 3. Class Participation (10%) Materials Needed: You are expected to have the following every day for class. 1. Pen and/or pencil. 2. Three-holed loose leaf paper. 3. One three-ringed binder. 4. Psychology, 5th ed (by David Myers) This is a college level course and presumes highly refined study skills including but not limited to quality note-taking, exhaustive test preparation, and a very strong desire to learn. We are blessed with inherently interesting subject matter, but your responsibility is to delve beyond the surface attraction of popular psychology and become true students of the discipline.
